It is not clear whether the new figure will hold up over the coming months.
The average temperature is expected to remain below 2°C in most parts of the world.
The world has seen a rise in average global temperatures over the past decade, but many scientists say this is not due to man-made greenhouse gas emissions.
“I think this will be a temporary thing,” says Richard Alley, a climate scientist at the University of Reading.
“We have a pretty long run of this.
We are seeing the climate slowly return to a more normal level, but we don’t know exactly when that will happen.”
Global temperatures are already falling as the world warms, and that trend is set to continue, experts say.
“In a decade or two, we will see that trend reversed,” Alley says.
